🎉🖤❤️ Happy School Counselors Week, Mrs. Shelby! ❤️🖤🎉

East Tate Elementary is so lucky to have Mrs. Shelby as our school counselor! From big feelings to little worries (and everything in between), she is always there with a smile, a listening ear, and the best advice.

Thank you, Mrs. Shelby, for caring so deeply for our students, cheering them on, and helping them shine every single day. Our school is a happier, kinder place because of YOU! 🌟📚💛

Let’s give Mrs. Shelby some love in the comments! 👏

A note from Mrs. Jones in the Library!

Hello Students and Parents,
I hope everyone has stayed warm and safe during the recent winter storm!
Wednesday, February 4th is World Read Aloud Day. While we had special activities planned at school, hazardous road conditions will keep us home. The good news is—you can still join the celebration from wherever you are!
Parents, I encourage you to read aloud to your children throughout the day and really engage them in the stories you share together.
Students, I encourage you to read aloud too! You can read to a parent, sibling, pet, stuffed animal, or even call a friend or relative and share a story.
Reading aloud helps build vocabulary, strengthens comprehension, and improves focus—and it’s a wonderful way to connect with others.
I’ve also included a link to Scholastic, which will be hosting read-alouds to K -3rd grade throughout the day.
I hope you’ll take time to celebrate reading aloud and have fun with it!

See you soon,
Mrs. Jones

As we approach the winter season, East Tate Elementary is preparing for the possibility of inclement weather days. To ensure all students can continue learning from home if the physical building is closed, a Chromebook Take-Home Letter is being sent home today.

What you need to do:

Check your student's backpack for the "Chromebook Opt-In/Opt-Out" form.

Opt-In: If you want your student to bring their device home daily to be prepared for sudden weather shifts.

Opt-Out: If you prefer the device stays at school (please note this may affect participation during e-learning days).

Please sign and return the form tomorrow, January 22nd.

Monday, January 12th, was National Fourth Graders Day and was a special day just for fourth graders! It celebrates how much they are learning and growing this year. In fourth grade, students read bigger books, solve harder math problems, and learn exciting new things. This day is not just about schoolwork. It’s about celebrating their effort and progress.

Fourth grade is an important year. Students begin to think more deeply, work more independently, and take on new responsibilities. For many, this is the year when reading really starts to click, friendships grow stronger, and learning becomes even more fun. Celebrating fourth graders reminds everyone how amazing they are. Their hard work matters, their ideas are important, and their voices deserve to be heard.

At East Tate, Fourth Graders Day was celebrated with lots of fun activities! Students played Connect Four, Four Corners, and Tic-Tac-Toe, and enjoyed coloring fourth-grade-themed pictures in the gym. Fourth grade teachers also completed tasks in their classrooms to make the day extra special. It was truly a fun and memorable day for everyone! 🎉📚

As many of you know, Friday was Officer Smith’s last day at East Tate. He will be greatly missed, and we are thankful for the dedication and care he showed our school community.

As part of a TCSD School Resource Officer post swap, Officer Smith will now be serving at Coldwater, and we are excited to welcome Officer Richardson to East Tate! We are especially pleased to welcome his family as well, including his third-grade daughter, to our school.

Officer Richardson has strong ties within the Independence community and is well known, respected, and appreciated for his service. He has a long-standing commitment to serving others, and we look forward to working alongside him as he supports our students, staff, and families.

People often come into our lives for a reason, and we truly believe Officer Richardson’s arrival at East Tate is a meaningful one! We are excited about the future and the positive impact he will have on our school.

Please join us in giving Officer Richardson and his family a warm East Tate welcome!
